My ELL (English Language Learners) recently completed another great project I'd like to share with you.
This project focused on the book, "The Best Parts of Us" by *
We read the book and really liked it because it was written in the students own printing and they didn't edit them perfectly. The students were also very diverse, just like us! :)
We then created our own book, where each student chose and wrote about their favourite body part and why. Our book wasn't complete without photos!

Art Project for Tanga Fundraiser
Since Commander Hadfield performed the song ISS (Is Someone Singing) from the ISS (International Space Station) for Music Monday last year, we have become huge fans of his!
For this ELL (English Language Learners) project, we read a book about Commander Hadfield called, "Postcards from Space" and looked at the book of his photos from space titled, "Earth".
We also viewed part of the video of him speaking to the Grade 6 students in Grande Prairie, which we really enjoyed. He is so interesting & funny!
We then looked at many of his photos on twitter @cmdr_hadfield, and students chose one that they wanted to create a water colour based on, and then we printed them. With a pencil we then sketched lightly on a canvas for the outline.
Then we started painting! It was a blast. We took photos of our work and created a bulletin board display to showcase our work!
The Tanga art sale was a huge success. Our school trustee @AmberStewartYYC even attended! We raised over $9000 for the Darjanga school in Tanzania! We were very proud of our contribution. This year the money will go to buy much needed bookshelves and furniture. They also experienced flooding this year.
We also wrote the thank you notes to the donors of the silent auction using cards we had painted.
